About the Client
The Research Design Service is an NHS initiative to aid medical researchers in achieving funding for research projects. The RDS southern and south-east regions were using different databases for storing, tracking, monitoring and reporting their activities - in an increasingly unwieldy and difficult-to-manage way. They realised that an online-based system could improve their efficiency - and set about finding a web development company with the expertise to migrate a huge and complex database in to a simple-to-use online system.
What we did for Them
- Such a large and complicated project required detailed planning - and a comprehensive functional specification document was produced
- The system allows staff to record all new research funding projects - organising hundreds of pieces of data about each project
- We built smart 'predictive' data entry forms to solve the problem of users entering different data in inconsistent ways
- The whole system runs online - enabling access by users across different sites to access the system at any time
- A highly complex system of user account permissions and security rights for secure access to restricted content
- One of our largest-scale projects - delivered for the NHS
