The company:

Advantec Internet Services Ltd is a specialist web development and programming agency based near Southampton, Hampshire. We provide a range of web development, design, marketing and programming services to a variety of clients - from small local businesses up to multi-national corporations. Our typical projects can range from building a simple brochure website for a local business, to developing a large-scale, online database system for the NHS. We also provide extensive e-commerce and web marketing services.

Purpose of the Role:

The Digital Projects Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire process of our web design and build projects - assisting with project scoping, design and creative, build, sign-off and ongoing support. The primary purpose of the role is to ensure website builds progress through to completion smoothly, rapidly and profitably as possible.

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Assisting with preparing proposals and specifications for new projects: Attending meetings with new clients - and assisting with the production of specifications for everything from simple static brochure sites to large-scale systems development.

  • Ensuring all staff use correct process for project and time management: Using project management software to ensure all communications and schedules for each project are managed effectively. Ensuring time-tracking software is used by all staff to log working time efficiently.

  • Developing project processes - including strict 'sign-off' and change management processes

  • Working with clients to obtain website content and sign-off as quickly and smoothly as possible: The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for existing clients - and will need to be highly pro-active in driving projects forward - liaising daily with clients, attending meetings - and building relationships through effective, professional communication. Website build projects tend to take one of two extremes - they are urgent with pressing deadlines and demanding clients, or they are lower-priority for the clients, who may take long periods of time to supply required content / approvals, etc. The Digital Projects Manager will need to be skilled in dealing with both these types of project - and everything in between - in ensuring that all projects are pushed through to completion as effectively as possible.

  • Managing workload of internal staff to ensure work is correctly prioritised: It will be the responsibility of the Digital Projects Manager to manage and schedule the workload of Advantec staff - prioritising tasks and scheduling work accordingly to ensure deadlines are met, projects are completed swiftly and clients remain satisfied.

  • Managing the balance between new site builds and existing client site updates / support

  • Ensuring client support requests are acknowledged and actioned in a timely fashion

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for all existing clients

  • Interpreting clients' requirements and ensuring projects adhere to them - without scope creep: The Digital Projects Manager needs to be able to listen to clients' requirements and interpret these accurately - conveying them to the Advantec staff working on their projects - and ensuring the end result matches what the client requires. Equally important is the ability to ensure that clients' requirements remain within scope of the original specification - so creating accurate, relevant and tight specifications for projects - and managing any potential creep beyond these specifications is essential.

Experience Required:

Previous web design agency experience is a distinct advantage - but more important is experience in a client-facing role - dealing daily with clients and managing their expectations and requirements. This role will involve significant client interaction, so competence and confidence dealing with clients professionally by phone, email and in person is essential. An understanding and experience of the process of producing quotes, proposals, specifications - and then ensuring that projects adhere to these specifications is also beneficial.

Technical Skills and Expertise Required:

While this is primarily a project and people management role, some technical knowledge and experience would certainly be beneficial (although not essential). Any working experience of HTML, CSS, Javascript, Jquery, PHP, ASP, MS SQL, MySQL etc - and graphics packages such as Photoshop and Illustrator would be advantageous.

Personal / Professional Characteristics Required:

This role will involve significant client interaction - by email, telephone and in client meetings - so a friendly and confident manner is essential - as is the ability to present an appropriate image for the company to its clients via professional written, verbal and face-to-face communication. A commitment to a high standard of work and attention to detail is also important.

Salary and benefits:

There are 25-days holiday per year. The salary is negotiable depending on experience. There is also a performance-related bonus scheme for this role.
