The company:
Advantec Internet Services Ltd is a specialist web development and programming agency based near Southampton, Hampshire. We provide a range of web development, design, marketing and programming services to a variety of clients - from small local businesses up to multi-national corporations. Our typical projects can range from building a simple brochure website for a local business, to developing a large-scale, online database system for the NHS. We also provide extensive e-commerce and web marketing services.
Purpose of the Role:
The majority of our business is now related to the development and support of complex web applications - and Coldfusion is our preferred programming language for the majority of these. The Web Application Developer is involved with some of our key projects - from assisting with initial client briefs and proposals - to building, implementing and testing custom web applications tailored to each individual client. The Coldfusion Developer will report directly to the Technical Director, planning and developing web applications, which closely follow clients' specifications- working alongside our design and project management staff to create world-class web applications that fulfil a very wide variety of client needs. The Developer will build these applications using ColdFusion - probably within a framework of their choosing (e.g. Coldspring, Fusebox, ModelGlue, etc). Applications will generally be developed using Microsoft SQL Server databases on Windows hosting environments.
Experience Required:
The Coldfusion Web Application Developer will have had several years of experience developing complex web applications - probably - but not essentially - within a web agency environment. Approximately 5-years experience is ideal - but more important is the ability to show a proven track-record of successful, live websites and applications that match the kind of projects we deliver for our clients.
Skills and Expertise Required:
- Extensive working knowledge and experience of Adobe Coldfusion
- A full and complete knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and SQL scripting
- A complete understanding of HTML/CSS - and how the applications developed integrate with the 'front end' elements of such a project
- Preferably some experience and/or understanding of Classic and .Net ASP and also PHP
- In addition to full competence with Microsoft SQL Server, an understanding of the workings of MySQL would also be beneficial
Personal / Professional Characteristics Required:
This role may require client interaction - including direct liaison with clients by email, telephone and in face-to-face meetings. A mature, professional attitude is therefore required - as are good written and verbal communication skills. A general dedication - both inside and outside of work - to web development and technology - and a passion for the use of the internet and IT to streamline and improve people's business and personal lives - would be a great advantage.
Salary and benefits:
There are clear routes for career progression - in either the direction of technical web development or front-end design - including future supervisory / management roles. We promote flexible working and there are 25-days holiday per year. The salary is negotiable depending on experience.
